THE WARPATH UNIVERSEThe galaxy is burning. The malevolent Corporation is ever expanding its sphere of influence, annexing more and more star systems. Their strategy is to make contact with alien civilizations, dazzle them with a few gifts of techno-bauble and then offer membership ‘as equal partners’ in the Great Galactic Co-prosperity Sphere. In the space of a few years, of course, the governments of those worlds will be changed by bribery, corruption, political intrigue, blackmail, threats and assassination, into puppet-states. They will devote all of their planets’ resources to enriching the Corporation and the few local bureaucrats that ‘run the business’ for it, while their populations plummet into a state of poverty and servitude...
FORGE FATHERSThe ancient and proud culture of the Forge Fathers has managed to retain its independence from the Corporation while others have fallen. Masters of science, artisans beyond compare, the Forge Fathers are the only aliens to trade with the Corporation on anything approaching even terms. While they are far fewer in numbers than humans, the Forge Fathers are renowned across the galaxy for their grasp of advanced technology. They are one of the only species in known space whose weaponry and spacecraft are more powerful than those of the Corporation. Their battle-suits are nigh-on impregnable, the destructive capability of their thermal guns is of tremendous magnitude, not to mention the incredible rate of fire and penetrative power of their solid-shot weaponry. In the field of space warfare, they are unsurpassed. Their ships are much like they are: slow, massive, resilient to damage, and armed to the teeth. MARAUDERSWhen the Corporation first encountered worlds populated by the Orx race, any attempt at ruling the warlike tribes proved unsuccessful. Entire systems were ‘cleared’ of the Orx infestation before finally someone found a use for the ferocious brutes. General Klimt trained the first battalion of Orx auxiliaries using Corporation war-doctrine, and he was so successful that the Orx were then employed for decades as shock troopers. What the Corporation did not expect though was that the Orx learnt their lesson so well that soon thousands of Orx rebelled against their masters, deserting and seizing control of a flotilla of spaceships. These fugitive Orx made contact with other worlds where their feral brethren still lived and there they spread their new-found technological and organizational skills.
